Tips on Setting Up Your File for CMYK Print in Adobe Photoshop.

The first thing to keep in mind is what is what media your design going to be used for. Today with the advancement of DTP (Direct to plate) Film is a old way of producing, although your files will be prepared the same way.

When you send your files to the printer you need to make sure to send all fonts and suitcases. This will send the printer a screen font and a print font.

Second, you will need to make sure your files are set up at 300 dpi and is in CMYK. You can check this in image size.

Third, when sending your file make sure you send your file with layers. This is good incase you need to make some last minute corrections, but is not recommended to ever make corrections when sending file to printer.

Fourth, make sure you have a (bleed) if you want your file to print to the edges. To do this design your project at least .25 larger than your expected print size.

Fifth, you should have the folders Name, a subfolder named fonts and another folder inside that folder called images.

Lastly make sure you send the all folders as on folder a put on a CD. When FTPing files you are taking a chance of loosing some resoulution and printer problems.

Here is a example of what the printer is talking about when he says 4/0, 4/1, 4/2, 4,3, 4,4

The 4 represents CMYK full color process. CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW, BLACK. So for 4/1 that means full color on front side and 1 color on back and so forth.
